My Mom and Her Love of 1970's Fashion
My mom’s fashion heydey was in the 70’s. As I flip through old photos I see how she rocked floral boho maxi dresses, figure flattering jumpsuits and slinky disco outfits. She called them her one-piece wonders. I remember her talking about bell bottoms and platform shoes being popular thanks to Sonny and Cher. Her wardrobe was an explosion of color and prints, a must-have in the 70’s. All of the styles seemed to highlight a woman’s assets which was a big departure from the conservative fashion of past decades. In today’s fashion you can clearly see the influence of the 70’s. Popular styles today include jumpsuits and maxi dresses that include small details paying homage to the 70’s with floral prints, delicate keyholes and bell bottoms. From Halston to DVF, we have a lot to thank for 70’s fashion trends.
70's Inspired Fashion Today
One of my favorite designers of the 70’s is Halston. Halston gained fame for his attention getting glitz and glamorous designs. His fashion consisted of gold lamé and plunging necklines. Today his brand still evokes that 70’s nostalgia of the disco era. In honor of my mom and her love of 70’s fashion, I wanted to feature a Halston dress that would be worthy of Studio 54. I feel like I’m ready for an evening of glamour to dance the night away with Andy Warhol and Liza Minelli. Evening makeup of the 70’s was dramatic. I worked on creating the perfect wing with liquid eyeliner. This look was very popular in the 70’s. My mom always wore her eyeliner perfectly winged and taught me how to apply it. She was a master makeup artist. Thank you mom for teaching me your technique! I love you to the moon and back! This post is for you.
